TTP’s volunteer training includes an introduction to adapted tango, information on Parkinson’s and symptoms, the benefits of dance and tango for individuals with PD, and a fall prevention component led by a physical therapist from Cloudline Physical Therapy. Provided free to all who could commit to volunteering in pilot year programming.

The Tango Therapy Project joined forces with local musicians Shinjoo Cho and Alejo de los Reyes (El Sesenta Dúo) and dancers Sarah Chung and Damian Lobato for a lunchtime concert and presentation at Thomas Jefferson University’s Humanities & Health Program.

A virtual presentation by Dr. Alexandra Pfister (MD, Neurology Resident at UPenn, dancer) and Heather Cianci (PT, MS, GCS) on the symptoms and progression of Parkinson’s disease, the evidence that exercise (including tango) can help slow the progression of the disease and ease symptoms, and effectively incorporating safety guidelines into exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s.
